Prime Minister JOHN HOWARD says he hopes to sign a memorandum of understanding with
the United States over a missile defence system.

Mr HOWARD has this morning been meeting with the chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of
Staff, General RICHARD MYERS, at Kirribilli House.

Defence Force chief PETER COSGROVE and US Ambassador TOM SCHIEFFER have also been participating
in the talks.
