Investigations into arrow death continue

Homicide squad detectives will resume investigations tomorrow into the death of a Rye
man shot through the back with an arrow as he prepared Christmas dinner.

The name of the dead man was withheld today at the relatives' request.

Police say a 16-year-old youth who fired the arrow has been treated for shock, and
is undergoing counselling, as is the family of the victim.

He was spoken to late yesterday before being released.

Police say no charges have been laid, and a post mortem examination is planned for
later in the week.

The 16-year old had been testing a new sight for his archery bow in his backyard at
Nerissa Street in Rye, outside of Melbourne.

He had set up a bale as a practice target, but missed, and the arrow went through the
fence, travelling about 30 metres before hitting a 58-year-old neighbour in the back.

Homicide squad Detective Senior Sergeant RON IDDLES says many factors will need to
be looked at before a decision is made about what, if any, charges will be laid against
the teenager.
