Fed: Nairn appointed to eminent scientists group
A former chairman of Australia's quarantine and exports advisory council, MALCOLM NAIRN,
has been appointed to a special panel of scientists to review import risk analysis reports.
Agriculture Minister WARREN TRUSS says Emeritus Professor NAIRN will join JIM PEACOCK,
president of the Australian Academy of Science, and JOHN RADCLIFFE, a fellow of the Australian
Academy of Technological Science and Engineering, on the panel.
The group will review import risk analysis reports compiled by the nation's quarantine
watchdog, Biosecurity Australia.
The move follows complaints from industry groups, particularly the apple and pear,
pigmeat and banana industries, about the watchdog's reports.
Mr TRUSS says the three scientists will give industry groups added confidence in the process.
